Filmmaking From the Pros: ACTION!

Friday, March 30, 2012

This day is for any film-loving student!  Panel discussions will be held with local, national, celebrity and independent filmmakers on topics such as narrative films and documentary films.  Also discussed will be the roles of the filmmaker and the individual experiences and advice of the panelists on how they started out.  Students will get opportunities to ask the experts their own questions as well.

Screenwriting: From Script to Screen, ASAP!

Monday, April 2, 2012

This program will take students through the screenwriting process and will also address how to deal with the demanding opportunities that new filmmakers will have to face, i.e. first just getting your thoughts out and writing your own idea short, writing for competitions with strict guidelines (including 48 hour deadlines), and writing scripts that attract the right people to get their film made (no matter how small).  The break-out session will consist of groups writing a 2-3 page script.  They will pitch their idea and watch their work performed in a staged reading by local actors.  They can use this experience to wrap up the session and decide what revisions might be necessary to improve the first draft of their script/scene.  A fun opportunity for one of student scripts will be announced..

Acting Makes a Better Filmmaker!

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

On this day, acting will take center stage!  Whether you are an aspiring actor, director, casting director, producer or even a crew member, understanding the acting process will make you better at what you do.  The Industry guest panel will shed light on how the actor prepares, auditions and performs for film, TV, stage and commercials. They will also address how to market yourself to get the jobs you want.  For the break-out session, the panel will put students through the audition process, including callbacks and final callbacks, so the participants will really be able to get a sense for what it takes to be in the biz!

Ready…Set…FILM!

Thursday, April 5, 2012

The focus of this day will be for film interested students to participate in hands-on and break-out activities that will walk them through some of the “old reliables” and new technologies becoming more available and mainstream in today’s filmmaking process.  These future filmmakers will get the chance to conceptualize a storyboard, participate in panel discussions and work with the guest professionals, learning about all the aspects and positions of film production and how to avoid the common traps that will mark their films as “novice”.  Students will be filming a short this day, so get ready to work!
